Baker & McKenzie Has Opened An Office In Yangon

Baker & McKenzie has opened an office in Yangon. The office is the firm’s 75th office globally and 16th office in the Asia-Pacific region. Chris Hughes, an infrastructure and corporate lawyer from Australia, will lead the Yangon office.

The team in Myanmar is supported by lawyers in other ASEAN countries and elsewhere with experience advising on investments into Myanmar and other emerging markets, including Burmese-speaking lawyers in Sydney and Singapore. The firm first entered the Myanmar market more than two years ago with the opening of its Myanmar Centre in Bangkok.

The firm can advise on Myanmar law and regulations in addition to international laws relevant to investing in Myanmar. Its practice will have particular focus on the information technology and telecommunications, consumer goods and energy, mining and infrastructure sectors.
