USPTO Hosting Software Partnership Meeting

30 August 2013

USPTO Hosting Software Partnership Meeting
The US Department of Commerce’s United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has announced that it will host its next Software Partnership meeting on October 17, 2013, at the University of California Berkeley School of Law in Berkeley, California. The public meeting will serve as an opportunity to bring stakeholders together to share ideas, experiences and insights and to provide a forum for an informal discussion on topics specific to the software community, a spokesperson said.

The USPTO has formed a partnership with the software community to enhance the quality of software related patents. The Software Partnership is an opportunity to bring stakeholders together through a series of roundtable discussions to share ideas, feedback, experiences, and insights on software-related patents.

Senior USPTO officials will provide an overview of the executive actions related to patent assertion entities and US innovation initiatives called for in President Obama’s executive actions on June 4, 2013. Other topics of discussion will include feedback from the previous Software Partnership roundtables held in Silicon Valley and New York; proposed next steps by the USPTO; and an interactive discussion session on strategies to improve claim clarity, such as the use of glossaries in patent applications.

The event will can also be viewed live through the USPTO website.
