A team of professionals from Beijing-based IP boutique China Smart IP joined Wanhuida Intellectual Property on February 23, 2024, bringing an addition of 10 people to Wanhuida’s patent practice, further strengthening its expertise in the areas of mechanical and electrical engineering, telecommunications, chemistry, and biopharma.

Daniel Jiang, who served as managing partner of China Smart IP, joined Wanhuida as a partner. He will be based in Wanhuida’s head office in Beijing, serving as a co-chair of its patent prosecution practice.

Educated in Canada, Jiang holds a Master’s of Engineering from the University of Regina and a Bachelor’s of Engineering from McMaster University. He is licensed both as a patent attorney and an attorney-at-law in China. He also has experience in the United States, Japan, and Europe. His practice focuses on prosecuting patent applications, advising on patent re-examination, invalidation and licensing matters, as well as formulating and executing patent enforcement and litigating strategy. Jiang’s area of technical expertise includes mechanical, electrical, telecommunications and computer.

Jiang started his own IP boutique in 2017. Before that, he was a partner at a prestige Chinese IP firm for four years and a patent attorney at a reputable IP firm for seven years. He worked as a system engineer at Hydro One Ontario, Ontario’s largest electricity transmission and distribution service provider, for two years.
