Overview

Yaqi Tan joined Unitalen Attorneys at Law in 2014 and now has more than 10 years of professional experience in IP. She is primarily responsible for handling trademark protection for Chinese enterprises in regions such as North America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, South America and Oceania.

Based on her extensive practical experience in Chinese trademark law, Tan specializes in comparative studies of trademark laws across different countries. She provides tailored trademark protection strategies for Chinese clients expanding overseas by integrating local legal systems. In one notable U.S. case, she successfully claimed trademark rights for a Chinese company by asserting prior use. She also handled an appeal against an opposition case in the European Union, securing recognition for a Chinese company’s trademark as having a certain reputation in the EU. Additionally, she has represented multiple Chinese enterprises in opposition, invalidation and cancellation cases in Thailand, Indonesia, Peru, Brazil, Mexico and other jurisdictions, achieving favourable outcomes in those matters.

Tan contributed to the compilation of the Overseas Trademark Rights Protection Guide for Key Countries or Regions, a project organized by the China Trademark Association, and served as co-chair of the Foreign Trademark Law Research Group. In 2023, she was selected as a Tier-1 expert for the China Trademark Association’s Trademark Talent Database. In 2025, she was honoured as a Young Talent in Trademark Legal Services by the Beijing Trademark Association and was included in the Beijing Lawyers Association’s Database of Foreign-Related Legal Talents. Tan is also a member of the International Trademark Association (INTA) and has been serving as deputy director of the University Committee of the Beijing Trademark Association since 2022.
