Overview

Samta Mehra is a partner at Remfry & Sagar with over two decades of experience; she is the trademark chair at the firm. She has represented leading domestic and multinational companies in the protection and enforcement of their IP rights. A large part of her practice focuses on trademark prosecution and opposition; she is recognised for her strategic skills and portfolio management abilities in this domain. Her expertise is especially strong when it comes to handling international registrations under the Madrid system, protecting non-traditional trademarks and assisting with the transfer and licensing of rights. Given her deep knowledge of how trademark systems work globally, Mehra is also very well-placed to advise clients on securing trademark registrations in jurisdictions outside India. 

She also leads the industrial designs practice at the firm, representing right owners across a range of industries including the automotive, engineering, fashion and medical sectors. 

Mehra is the global chair of INTA’s Non-Traditional Marks committee (2026-27 term). She is actively involved in MARQUES (a member of its Famous and Well-known Marks committee) and the Pharmaceutical Trade Marks Group (PTMG). Her insights on IP law and practise have been covered by various publications and she is a frequent speaker at both domestic and international forums.
