Loretta Lau named partner at Deacons in Hong Kong

Loretta Lau has been promoted to partner at Deacons in Hong Kong, where she is a member of the firm’s intellectual property team.

Lau is admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong and England and Wales (non-practising). She has been advising on Hong Kong and international trademark protection for over 15 years and has extensive experience in trademark searching and clearance, filing strategy and trademark prosecution. She handles large international trademark filing programs and contentious trademark matters including opposition, invalidation and revocation proceedings, as well as commercial IP matters such as licensing, assignment, security interest and coexistence agreements. Lau’s practice combines trademark protection with searching, registering, renewing and transferring domain names.

She works with multinational clients from various sectors including education, hospitality and leisure, life sciences and healthcare, consumer goods and retail, funds and investment management, and technology, media and telecom.

Prior to joining Deacons, Lau worked for the Government in the Hong Kong Intellectual Property Department, where she advised on policy and copyright issues. She speaks English, Cantonese and Mandarin.

Her promotion is one of four at the firm at the start of 2022. “It gives me great pleasure to welcome Loretta to the partnership. These promotions demonstrate Deacons’ continued investment in grooming top-quality talent and commitment to providing clients with cutting-edge legal advice,” said Lilian Chiang, senior partner at Deacons.

“We are very pleased to see Loretta being promoted as a partner. She has been a long-standing core member of the IP team and has been with the firm for over 10 years. She has been recognized as a leading and outstanding practitioner, and her appointment will further bolster our award-winning IP practice,” said Annie Tsoi and Charmaine Koo, partners and co-heads of the intellectual property practice group at the firm.

The appointments bring the total number of partners at Deacons to 56.
