Ulugbek Abdullaev promoted to partner at Dentons in Tashkent

Ulugbek Abdullaev has been promoted to partner at Dentons in Tashkent; he had been counsel at the firm since April 2019 and was a senior associate at Dentons prior to that.

Abdullaev has ample experience in protection of the IP rights in Uzbekistan, including against unfair competition, false advertising, and counterfeit products. These include disputes relating to protection against infringement of intellectual property rights by other businesses, as well as appeal of decisions of state bodies on the use of intellectual property in breach of the law. The court practice is also closely tied with out-of-court protection of intellectual property rights infringed by manufacturing products, advertising (both offline and online) with unlawful use of intellectual property rights, and other types of infringements.

His experience includes:

  • Government of Uzbekistan: Advising on modernizing the IP laws to bring in compliance with TRIPS agreement (as part of WTO accession process).
  • Multinational pharma company: Conducting due diligence of IP rights (including patents, trademarks, and commercial secret) related to on acquisition of US$660 million pharmaceutical portfolio in Uzbekistan and 10 other countries.
  • US multi-national bank: Advising on data localization law.
  • Multinational telecom company: Advising on copyright infringement claim in relation to software.
  • Multinational companies: Advising on franchising hotel, coffee and luxury brands in Uzbekistan.
  • Multinational IT companies: Advising on offering an adtech, edutech, online maps, ride sharing, digital broadcasting and other online products in Uzbekistan.

Abdullaev is also noted for his work in life sciences, corporate, M&A, private equity, energy, infrastructure and PPP projects.
