Indonesia and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) have solidified their commitment to strengthening collaboration on intellectual property.
Following a meeting in Jakarta between Indonesian foreign minister Sugiono and WIPO director general Daren Tang, both parties agreed to advance a partnership focused on leveraging IP for national development. Key initiatives will include developing human resource capacity, promoting innovation and increasing public IP literacy.
Minister Sugiono emphasized the importance of WIPO’s support in achieving Indonesia’s national goals, particularly by integrating sustainable development and poverty alleviation into all IP programs.
A significant outcome of the meeting was the signing of a Letter of Intent on IP Training for Diplomats, aimed to enhance Indonesia’s economic and innovation diplomacy on the global stage.
Tang commended Indonesia’s progress in creating an inclusive IP ecosystem, especially within its creative economy and micro, small and medium enterprise sectors. He affirmed WIPO’s readiness to provide training, technical assistance and support for concrete programs, underscoring a shared vision to make intellectual property a key driver of inclusive and sustainable economic progress.
