Indonesia’s IP Experts 2026

Indonesia’s IP Experts 2026

Indonesia remains cautiously optimistic about its rankings last year in the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s 2025 International IP Index, published in April 2025.

In the report, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce praised efforts by the Directorate General of Intellectual Property to improve Indonesia’s IP enforcement environment, noting also “good cabinet-level coordination and coordinating framework for IP enforcement.” The report also gave the government credit for Indonesia’s Patent Prosecution Highway with the Japan Patent Office, and the availability of administrative relief for copyright infringement online.

Meanwhile, says Justisiari Kusumah, managing partner of K&K Advocates, writing on the firm’s website, in a survey conducted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce of 55 countries in 2024, it can be perceived that Indonesia’s International Intellectual Property Index has declined compared to 2023. “Indonesia’s position in the International IP index is in the 50th place, while in 2023 Indonesia ranked 49th out of 55 countries. Indonesia’s international IP Index score in 2024 is only 28.68, slightly above Ecuador, Pakistan, Algeria, Russia and Venezuela,” Kusumah wrote.

He noted that a number of countries in the ASEAN region have international IP index scores far above Indonesia. Singapore has a score of 80.11 and is ranked 13th out of 55 countries in the world, Malaysia has a score of 50.43 (ranked 28), the Philippines has a score of 40.17 (ranked 36), Vietnam has a score of 38.91 (ranked 39), Brunei has a score of 38.75 (ranked 40) and Thailand has a score of 36.11 (ranked 44), while Indonesia is ranked 50th with a score of 28.68.

The government of Indonesia continues to work to improve its IP regime, including, this month, adopting the Creative Economy Data Model (CEDM) in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to strengthen Indonesia’s creative economy.

“CEDM will help us map the strengths and gaps within Indonesia’s creative economy ecosystem, identify policy priorities and support evidence-based decision-making,” Creative Economy Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya said in a statement following a meeting with WIPO representatives in Jakarta on June 11, 2026.

The CEDM) is a framework designed to measure and evaluate the quality of a country’s creative ecosystem. It helps governments assess how well their policies, infrastructure and intellectual property systems support the growth of creative industries, such as the arts, design and digital media).

Harsya said at the meeting that Indonesia was seeking other ways of cooperating with WIPO. “We also see opportunities to deepen cooperation with WIPO in intellectual property commercialization, music royalty governance and intellectual property-based financing for creative economy practitioners,” he said.

Sylvie Fortin, deputy director general of WIPO’s Copyright and Creative Industries Sector said that Indonesia has emerged as one of the leading global voices in creative economy development, according to Antara. She had good words for Indonesia’s long-term strategy, integrating creativity, intellectual property and innovation as central pillars to achieving the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision, but said that Indonesia must work to improve its data collection.

“CEDM can complement existing performance indicators by serving as an ecosystem monitoring tool, enabling the ministry to track not only creative economy performance but also the underlying conditions that will determine its long-term sustainability,” Fortin said.

It is with this mostly positive report in mind that we turned to IP professionals in the region in order to understand better what clients need today. Asia IP asked a large number of professionals – mostly in-house counsel and corporate legal managers – what they were looking for from their legal service providers. From their answers, we have compiled our list of Indonesia’s IP Experts, those lawyers who understand what their clients need and are able to provide them with the best practical advice.

To anyone familiar with the intellectual property market in Indonesia, it is no surprise that Rouse leads the list of law firms represented on the list; the powerhouse law firm placed five lawyers on our list (Yurio Astary, Arifia Fajra, Tania Lovita, Nick Redfearn and Lisa Yong), followed by SKC Law, which placed four lawyers on the list (Andrew Conduit, Krishna Dibyatara, Bagus Lestanto and Purnomo Suryomurcito).

Januar Jahja & Partners (Andrew Diamond, Prudence Jahja and Eva Dewi Kartika) had three lawyers named to our list. A number of local firms are represented by two lawyers each: Assegaf Hamzah & Partners, Biro Oktroi Roosseno, FAIP Advocates & IP Counsels, Iman Sjahputra & Associates, Inter Patent Office, K&K Advocates, Makarim & Taira S. and Winuriska, Prabawa & Partners.

Our survey includes only lawyers working at law firms in Indonesia. Most of the lawyers named to our list have multiple practice specialties. Many of them are litigators, while others concentrate on prosecution work or provide strategic advice.

All of them have something in common: they are Asia IP’s IP Experts for Indonesia.

Indonesia’s IP Experts is based solely on independent editorial research conducted by Asia IP. As part of this project, we turned to thousands of in-house counsel in Asia and around the world, and asked them to nominate private-practice lawyers, including foreign legal consultants, advisers and counsel.

The final list reflects the nominations received combined with the input of the editorial team at Asia IP, which has more than 55 years of collective experience in researching and understanding the legal market in Southeast Asia.

All private practice intellectual property lawyers working at law firms in Indonesia were eligible for inclusion in the nomination process; there were no fees or any other requirements for inclusion in the process.

The names of our 50 IP Experts are published here. Each IP Expert was given the opportunity to include their biography and contact details in print and on our website, for which a fee was charged.
