IPOS inks four MoUs to boost global IP cooperation during IP Week @ SG 2022

Among the highlights of IP Week @ SG 2022 held from September 6 – 7, 2022 was the signing of several Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) between the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) and its various partners.

Held at the Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre in Singapore, venue of IP Week @ SG 2022, the MoU signings seek to boost global cooperation in IP.

“As global innovation becomes more interconnected, it is essential for IP offices to deepen their links and partnerships,” said Rena Lee, chief executive of IPOS. “At IP Week @ SG 2022, we continued to expand our global network through four MoUs with the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property, China Intellectual Property Training Center, Asia Pacific Institute of Expertsand SGInnovate.”

IPOS International entered into a partnership with China Intellectual Property Training Center for a collaboration on IP education and IP talent development.

The MoU with the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property was signed to enhance bilateral cooperation in IP commercialization, training and exchanges involving frontier technologies.

As for SGInnovate (SGI), CEO Dr. Lim Jui said: “Both SGInnovate and IPOS International have a shared mission of creating a more fertile environment that enables innovation to flourish. We look forward to working closely to support Singapore's rapidly growing deep tech ecosystem, equipping our founders and startup teams with the necessary IP know-how and tools at each stage of their growth journey.”

An innovation platform owned by the Singaporean government, SGI supports entrepreneurs engaged in the development of deep technology solutions.

Lastly, IPOS decided to partner with the Asia Pacific Institute of Experts (APIEx), a Singapore-based society which aims to lead the way in the professional development of experts in the area of expert evidence in Asia Pacific.

“Amongst the objectives of the MoU is for APIEx to collaborate with IPOS to promote and train experts who have subject-matter technical expertise; and valuation expertise in the field of intangible assets. It is our joint hope to positively contribute to the technical expert space with a view to support Singapore as a hub for both commercial expertise and a hub for dispute resolution,” said Prof. Leslie Chew SC, president of APIEx and dean of Singapore University of Social Sciences’s School of Law.

“We look forward to working closely with our partners to better support innovators and businesses around the world,” said Lee.
