Thailand collaborates with Lazada to increase GI product sales

The Commerce Ministry has teamed up with well-known online retailer Lazada to market premium Geographical Indication (GI) goods to consumers all throughout the nation.

The Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) and Lazada's partnership is a part of the government's effort to promote new marketing opportunities for GI products through traditional and online channels in order to increase income for farmers and business owners, according to Deputy Commerce Minister Sinit Lertkrai.

According to Sanit, the DIP has collaborated with several marketing channels to offer high-end GI products, making it simple for customers to purchase them.

Products with a particular geographic origin and traits or a reputation derived from that origin are referred to as having a geographical indication (GI). A symbol identifying a product from a certain area is required for it to qualify as a GI product.

Sanit stated that GI certification increases the value of the product and prohibits rivals from using the region's designation and deceiving consumers about the product's origins.

Among the high-end GI products selected to lead Lazada's marketing campaign are Thep Sadej coffee from Chiang Mai, Pae Jor Khew beans from Tak, Mor Hom cloth from Phrae, Bang Kra Thum sun-dried banana from Phitsanulok, and Thung Kula Ronghai jasmine rice from Roi Et.
