Intellectual property law firm James & Wells has appointed Greg Munt as a consultant, further
strengthening its international IP practice.
Munt brings over four decades of experience in intellectual property, having previously served
as partner and principal at Griffith Hack in Melbourne. He is a registered patent attorney in both
Australia and New Zealand, and a registered trademark attorney in Australia. He holds a
Bachelor of Materials Engineering and is a Fellow of The Institute of Patent and Trade Mark
Attorneys of Australia (IPTA). He is also an active member of the Intellectual Property Society of
Australia and New Zealand (IPSANZ), and served as President of the Asian Patent Attorneys
Association from 2021 to 2023.
His career spans a wide range of industries, including mining, steelmaking, solar energy, and
packaging, with a strong focus on aligning IP strategy with commercial outcomes. Early in his
career, Munt worked as an in-house patent attorney for a global mining company, gaining
valuable insight into the complex IP needs of corporate clients.
At James & Wells, he will advise local clients on patent protection and IP commercialisation,
while also supporting foreign clients navigating Australian Patent Office procedures.
“Greg’s expertise and leadership in intellectual property are a perfect fit with our firm’s
dedication to excellence in IP and supporting clients in protecting and leveraging their ideas,”
said Adam Luxton, partner at James & Wells.
Founded in 1979, James & Wells provides comprehensive IP services across Australia, New
Zealand, and internationally, helping innovators protect and maximise the value of their ideas.
