Marcus Walkom to lead Media Arts Lawyers’ Brisbane office

Australian entertainment law-specialist firm Media Arts Lawyers has expanded its practice to Brisbane, joining offices in Melbourne, Sydney and Auckland.

Marcus Walkom, who was made partner at the firm late last year, will lead the new office. Walkom has experience in entertainment and commercial law and as a litigator who has practiced in Australia and the United Kingdom. His music is focused primarily on the music industry, in which he has represented high-profile artists, managers, producers, labels, publishers, festivals, events and start-ups. With a particular interest in working with new and emerging talent, he has assisted in procuring, negotiating and advising on local and international deals for clients. He also runs the independent label and management company We Are Golden.

In a statement, the firm called Brisbane “the obvious next choice” for the new branch and a “perfect location” to serve clients in Queensland and northern New South Wales.

“I look forward to servicing the vibrant music, entertainment and creative industries throughout Queensland and northern New South Wales as the region continues its evolution into a globally recognized home of the arts,” Walkom said.

Yasmin Naghavi in Melbourne and Rob Glass in Sydney and Auckland were also promoted to partner in late 2021, joining partners David Vodicka, Stephen King and Julian Hewitt and doubling the firm’s partnership.
