Uzbekistan’s prime minister Abdulla Aripov met with World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) director general Daren Tang to discuss enhancing collaboration in intellectual property, according to a press release.
Daren Tang expressed gratitude to president Shavkat Mirziyoyev for giving intellectual property legal protection in Uzbekistan a priority during the Tashkent summit. Additionally, he reiterated WIPO’s backing for Uzbekistan’s continuous changes aimed at improving the IP industry and its regulatory structure.
The two parties negotiated a combined national intellectual property plan for 2026-2030. Enhancing the abilities of IP professionals nationwide was a major goal of the discussions.
One proposal included the establishment of a joint master’s programme in intellectual property at Tashkent State Law University in partnership with WIPO. The initiative aims to strengthen institutional capacity and develop local knowledge.
Uzbekistan’s participation in WIPO Green – a programme that fosters innovation in the fields of food security, climate change and the green economy – was also discussed. A joint initiative to protect the intellectual property rights of agricultural goods developed in the country is also being planned.
