KPDN launches initiatives to cut trademark fees for MSMEs

In conjunction with the National Day and Malaysia Day 2025 (HKHM 2025) celebrations, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) announced several initiatives aimed at supporting local businesses and consumers. Headlining the announcement is a significant reduction in trademark registration fees offered through its agency, the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO).

Armizan Mohd Ali, the minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, unveiled the initiatives recently, saying they reflect a commitment to national prosperity and unity.

Key initiatives include:

  1. Trademark Fee Reduction Package. Under the theme “Protect Local Brands, Penetrate Global Markets,” this package is designed to encourage micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to protect their intellectual property.
  • Offer: The trademark registration fee is reduced by RM300 (US$71), from RM950 (US$225) to RM650 (US$154) per application.
  • Duration: The promotion runs for four months, from September 1 to December 31, 2025.
  • Eligibility: Open to individuals, business entities, associations and organizations.
  • Objective: To boost the competitiveness of local brands, noting that MSMEs constitute 96.1 percent of all business entities in Malaysia.
  1.  Shopee Consumer Campaign. In partnership with Shopee, KPDN is also extending benefits directly to consumers.
  • Campaign: The “Shopee Payung RM100 Campaign.”
  • Offer: Shoppers can purchase a RM100 (US$24) voucher for only RM1 (US$0.4). The voucher is usable across Shopee platforms, including ShopeeFood and Shopee Live.
  • Duration: August 31 to September 16, 2025.
  • Impact: The campaign has a total allocation of RM10 million (US$2.37 million) and is expected to benefit 100,000 users. Shopee will also offer free delivery services during this period.
  1. Enhanced Public Services with Ezbiz On-The-Go 2.0. The Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM), another KPDN agency, has launched the Ezbiz On-The-Go 2.0 Bus. This upgraded mobile service vehicle is designed to provide faster and more comfortable access to SSM services for the public. Improvements include a larger bus, modern counter services and self-service touch-screen kiosks.

“These initiatives are a manifestation of our commitment to supporting the people and a sign of appreciation for the togetherness of all races in Malaysia in building a more peaceful and prosperous country,” said Ali.
